Who doesn't like a festival or special event? |
In the travel business festivals and special events are very popular.
I believe they sell well because travelers know there is a time sensitivity and if they don't go, they are going to truly miss out on something special in travel. Whenever we as tour operators put together a product that is difficult for the traveler to do by themselves, we usually sell out. People want to be part of the experience of a special event or festival. |

One of my favorites is the Tournament of Roses Parade held in Pasadena, California on New Years Day. I love the pageantry! The grand marshal kicks off this granddaddy of all parades, followed by a healthy mixture of marching bands and stunning floats. The floats always have a theme and are made from all types of flowers. For us flower buffs, we are beside ourselves with awe and amazement. Millions and millions of different flowers make up these gorgeous floats. |
| Another favorite is the Holland Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan. This is very special to me as this was my very first tour that I escorted in 1970. The festival occurs every May, and in 1970 I was six months pregnant with our son, John Jr. I earned lots of tips as I know they felt sorry for me, standing by the coach as it was snowing amongst the tulips. A most unusual year indeed. |

In 2016, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the National Parks system. I actually know of acquaintances that have been to all 400+ National Parks, and many others who are striving to see them all. What a bucket list that is. Won't that be the best event ever? So look for the National Parks 100th anniversary logo as you are preparing travel plans for 2016. I know with a name like Mayflower Tours, we will promoting our great country and many of the great National Parks. It can't get much more special than that. |
