Day
One – Arrive in Charleston, South
Carolina
Welcome to Charleston, widely regarded as
one of the most beautiful and historic cities
in America; a place where delightful southern
breezes and cobblestone streets pave the
way to gracious living and warm hospitality.
Your Tour Manager will be available this
evening at 6:00 p.m. to provide further
details on the program and to offer dining
suggestions.
Day Two – Charleston and Middleton
Place
We begin the day with a narrated cruise
across Charleston Harbor to historic Fort
Sumter, site of the first shot of the American
Civil War. Continue to Middleton Place Plantation,
home of Henry Middleton, President of the
First Continental Congress. This National
Historic Landmark features a richly decorated
home and 65 acres of meticulously designed
gardens. Enjoy a taste of the Old South
with a traditional Low Country Plantation
lunch before a guided tour of Charleston,
considered by many to be one of the most
beautiful cities in America. Breakfast
and lunch
Day Three – Charleston to
Jekyll Island, Georgia
This morning depart for one of “Georgia’s
Golden Isles,” Jekyll Island with
the beautiful oak trees, Spanish moss and
palmetto. On the way, we visit Beaufort,
known for its southern hospitality, and
enjoy the scenic waterfront charm, quaint
shops and historic homes. Late this afternoon
we arrive at the romantic Victorian-style
Jekyll Island Club Hotel, our home for the
next two nights. The Jekyll Island Club
was originally built as an exclusive island
getaway for the Rockefeller and Vanderbilt
families. Breakfast and dinner
Day Four – Jekyll Island Touring
The day begins with a narrated tram tour
of Jekyll Island’s National Landmark
Historic District. You will hear the fascinating
stories of the island’s beginnings
and development by the “rich and famous”
of the late 1800s. The balance of the day
is yours to explore on your own or to simply
relax and enjoy the natural beauty. Breakfast
Day Five – Savannah
We travel to Savannah, the “Belle
of the South” and discover why General
Sherman found this city much too beautiful
to burn during the Civil War. A narrated
trolley tour tells us the tales and secrets
of the stately mansions as we drive through
the Historic District. We pass the 1820
birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, founder
of the Girl Scouts, the squares and streets
where movies such as Forrest Gump and Midnight
in the Garden of Good and Evil were filmed.
Tonight, dinner is served family-style at
Mrs. Wilkes’ Boarding House, a Savannah
legend. Breakfast and dinner
Day
Six – Free Day in Savannah or Visit
Hilton Head Island
Today is free to explore the enchanting
city of Savannah at your leisure. Discover
the many shops along River Street and enjoy
the beauty of the quaint squares perfect
for relaxing. For those who wish, a trip
to Hilton Head Island is available. Learn
of the island’s early history, its
role in the Civil War and its development
into one of the world’s premier resort
communities. This evening, join your fellow
travelers for a farewell dinner at one of
Savannah’s favorite restaurants, the
River House, with its own bakery. Breakfast
and dinner
