The Sales Managers and other colleagues from Mayflower Tours traveled to Destin to experience first-hand all of the amazing things you and your travelers will experience on Value Tour 2012 – Emerald Coast Getaway. And boy did we have an outstanding trip. The hotel is fantastic – comfortable guest rooms, the pool is beautiful and the hotel staff provided excellent service.
As we drove into Destin, we could see the pristine white sand beaches stretching for miles. We learned that the unique sand of the beaches in the Destin area is among the whitest and most homogenous of the world.
We had a chance to visit the Destin History and Fisherman's Museum. This quaint fishing village that boasts the state's largest charter fishing fleet and styles itself as the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village" was unveiled in the incredible exhibits we saw and the stories of the history of Destin's main source of commerce before electricity in the 1930s. You won't believe the large collection of antique fishing rods and reels, the most unique is constructed of split bamboo with an original Penn Reel, that belonged to Ernest Hemingway.
We were in awe at the extensive collection of weaponry and interactive displays on our visit to the Air Force Armament Museum. We walked among the aircraft, some used in World War 1. This is a must for everyone who loves history or aviation.
A highlight for all of us was watching the dolphins put on a show right alongside our glass-bottomed boat. We could watch as they swam below the hull and appeared on the opposite side of the vessel. These are truly incredible creatures – so many of them making the Emerald Coast their home.
We had some free time to stroll Harbor Walk Village. With shops and stores that will delight you, I know you'll enjoy your free time walking the multi-level waterfront stores to find that perfect souvenir – I did!
